My Story — Where It Began

Why I do this work, and why it matters to me

Nancy Meyer, JD, FMCHC (NBHWC pending)

Health has been part of my story for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a household where my father was deeply committed to athletics and my mother went back to school to study behavior modification, helping women find their way back to their own wellbeing. From the beginning, I understood — almost instinctively — that how we live shapes how we feel.

I went to college as a pre-med student, majoring in psychology and nutrition, with every intention of becoming a physician. But life, as it often does, had other plans. My family worried that medical school would be too much — too demanding, too long. They encouraged me toward law school instead. I decided I would give law school a try and went with an open heart and mind.

What I carried into law school — and into the 35 years of practice that followed — was not just a passion for health, but a particular kind of grit and determination. I had been diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of eight, at a time when the world did not yet understand learning differences. That experience shaped everything. It taught me to work harder, to prove more, to never stop pushing. I built a successful solo practice. I became, by every external measure, successful.

What I did not yet have was an integrated understanding of what taking care of myself truly meant.

When Everything Changed

After the birth of my second child, I got sick. Exhausted, achy, unable to get answers from conventional medicine. My doctors gave it a name — chronic fatigue — but not a solution. That experience sent me down a path I have never left: the path of functional medicine, root-cause thinking, and the understanding that our food, our sleep, our stress, our movement, our mindset — all of it is medicine.

Over the years that followed, that knowledge became not just personal but urgent. Two of my children faced serious health challenges — illnesses that conventional medicine struggled to fully address. I learned to ask different questions, to look upstream, to advocate fiercely. I became a student of everything that could help my family be as well as possible.

All the while, I kept practicing law. I raised five children. I built a life I am deeply proud of. I exercised, watched what I ate, pushed myself hard.

For years, I approached health the way I approached everything: linearly. Do the right things, in the right order, and the right outcome follows. It's a mindset that served me well in a 35-year legal career built on rules and logic.

But health isn't linear. You can do “all the right things” and still not feel well — because what you feel, how you think, and who you want to be throughout the process matter just as much as what you eat or how you move. Real change happens when all of it comes together, not when one piece is optimized in isolation.

That's the whole-picture approach I bring to coaching: integration, not just information.

For decades, I was taking care of myself — but in one dimension. What I was missing was integration.

Choosing Myself — Finally

This past year, two things happened close together. I turned 60. And I lost my mother. Those are not small events. They have a way of making you ask — what am I actually doing with the time I have? What have I been waiting for?

I had spent the previous year completing my certification through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy — rigorous, science-grounded, deeply aligned with everything I had been studying for decades. I had been doing this work informally for years: with myself, with friends, navigating my family's health. Now I had the training and the framework to do it intentionally, and the clarity to know that this was what I was meant to do.

I am stronger, clearer, and more energized at 60 than I was at 40. I lift weights, walk, practice yoga, sleep well, and wake up excited about my days. I am building a health coaching business, because I finally stopped waiting for permission to step into what was always next.

I know what it looks like to work hard at your health and still feel like something is missing. I also know what becomes possible when you find the whole picture.

Why I Do This Work

I want to be part of helping people on their journey to live their best lives — and to feel well while they're doing it.

As I get older, I've come to realize how important it is to have choices, and to be in the driving seat of our own well-being. There is so much in life we can't control. What we can control is how we care for ourselves along the way.

I love helping people uncover their values and character strengths — the things that make them uniquely them — and use those as a compass for lifestyle change. In our work together, that might mean starting with a values exercise or a strengths assessment, not because it's a formality, but because I've seen how differently change goes when it's rooted in what actually matters to someone, rather than a generic plan pulled off a shelf.

When change is built around who you really are, it stops feeling like discipline and starts feeling like alignment. That's when it actually moves the needle on your health — because you're not white-knuckling your way through someone else's idea of “healthy.” You're building a life that fits.

This is the work I want to do: helping you find your way into the driver's seat, so you can live fully — on your own terms.

Who I Work With

I work with people of every age, background, and season of life — anyone who senses there's more available to them than the way they feel right now. Some are doing everything “right” and still feel something is missing. Some are just beginning to pay attention to their health. Some are moving through a big transition and want support building what comes next. Wherever you're starting from, if you're ready to feel better, I'd love to talk.

I have a particular soft spot for attorneys and other high-stress professionals — it's the world I lived in for 35 years, and I understand it from the inside. If that's you → visit my page for attorneys

Grounded in self-compassion

My Philosophy

You are the expert on your own life

My work is grounded in functional medicine principles, in the science of self-compassion (Kristin Neff's framework), and in one core belief: you already hold the wisdom about your own life. My job isn't to hand you a rulebook — it's to help you see clearly, choose intentionally, and follow through.

  • Warm and direct — a trusted advisor, never a salesperson.
  • Empowering — you are capable; I'm the guide beside you.
  • Credentialed but approachable — expertise without intimidation.
  • Self-compassionate — progress made with kindness lasts longer.

For Referring Practitioners

A collaborative partner in patient outcomes

I work collaboratively with functional medicine physicians, naturopaths, and integrative practitioners to support patient outcomes between appointments. As a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, I help patients implement the lifestyle, nutrition, and behavioral changes that clinical care alone can't always address. I'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
